Ali Ray Perrin

  English/Sign Language Interpreter

Portland, Oregon

Welcome! I have been working with the Deaf Community for decades, first as an educator and then as an interpreter for the past 11 years.  I feel passionate about serving the community in the best way I can and I have earned the following certifications as an interpreter: NIC-A, OHCI, and CoreCHI. I am humbled to say that I also earned my Qualified Mental Health Interpreter (QMHI) certification in July of 2021 after doing an internship with Alabama's prestigious Mental Health Interpreter Training Project. I truly want to be an asset and an advocate for high quality mental health interpreting in the Portland, Oregon area.

Mental Health interpreting has become recognized as a skill set that requires specialized training in learning how to identify crucial diagnostic clues in patients' language so that we can provide clinicians with the information they need in order to make accurate diagnoses. Historically many deaf patients have been misdiagnosed and erroneously medicated because clinician's misunderstood their language dysfluency, for example.

I have compiled this collection of articles, information, and resources for providers and interpreters so that, together, we can offer high quality mental health services that take into consideration the unique needs of deaf, deafblind, and hard-of-hearing patients.
